Singapore Calling

It has been 10 years since I’ve set foot on Singaporean soil. People often pose the question, why go back to a destination you’ve already been to? Very true, why waste money going back to a place you’ve already seen once, why not go elsewhere? Some cities have a charm that attracts you back time after time. You start to feel the emptiness of not being in a city and your soul yearns to go back. Singapore, to me, is that city. No matter how many times you go, there will always be a next time. In just about 10 days, I’ll be on an eight-hour flight making my way to Singapore, for our conference in Asia.
It’s insane to think how much a city can change in the span of ten years. Honorary mention, ten years ago, the hotel the redefined rooftop pools, didn’t even exist. I’m talking about, the Marina Bay Sands; the hotel that introduced the concept of an infinity pool or rather popularised it. Taking a dip in this infinity pool is on every traveller’s bucket list. Very soon, I’ll be able to check that off! Our conference will be taking place at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre and hence the staff members and our delegates will be staying at the fantastic Marina Bay Sands.
There are now a whole bunch of popular sight seeing attractions that are in close vicinity to the Marina Bay Sands in the Marina Bay area that didn’t exist 10 years ago. The first being, Gardens By The Bay. From what I’ve heard, the Gardens by the Bay, puts on a light and music show every evening and it is a must see for those who have not experienced it. There’s also the Singapore Flyer, which is essentially a big Ferris Wheel and each flight takes roughly 30 minutes. Given that Singapore is a city, that has redefined roof top activities, there are a number of rooftop bars, clubs and lounges you just have to visit. If you happen to stay at Marina Bay Sands, there are a couple here, such as Ce La Vi. There’s also 1-Altitude, which is very popular. Our offsite function will be at Stellar which is on the level below the rooftop bar, 1-Altitude. Our delegates will have the option of going up to the rooftop bar and taking in 360degrees of breathtaking views. Get ready for those panoramic shots!
The hawker markets have become ever so popular and you absolutely must try the Singaporean Chilli Crab and for those who aren’t into seafood, make sure you get a bite of the Hainanese chicken! You need a day to explore the city doing things a local would do. Not sure if I’ll get a chance to indulge in these, but send me your pictures if you do get to do this.
If you are in the Architecture, Construction or Engineering industries, have a look at our conference, BILT Asia, and you could be making your way to Singapore to learn and network at a fantastic conference. And once you’re done with the day’s learning, you’ve got time to explore all that Singapore has to offer.
Ensure you’re following me on Instagram to keep up with my upcoming travels.
Until next time,
