My Traveling Tales Shows Us Around Greece | Guest Blog Post Series
Tell us a little bit about yourself - who are you; how your blog came about; anything else you'd like to add:
Hiya! My name is Bishnupriya Mondal based in Dubai, UAE; employed in Emirates Bank into Risk & Compliance. I am a travel freak. I live to travel, it’s more of a passion!
What is your preferred style of travel?
I don’t really have a preferred style. Any good company is an add-on for my travels. Solo travels are fun too.
Do you get to travel quite often?
Yes I make sure I do. My annual leaves are well planned and sorted in advance so that I can have my own leisure travels and family travels.
For the purposes of this blog - think of a destination where you travelled that you'll give us some hot tips on in this blog and tell us the destination below:
It has to be my dream destination for long, which is Greece. I finally made it to Greece (Athens- Mykonos- Santorini) this year around the end of April. This trip marked my first trip for 2017. I had done my research especially for the perfect time to visit Greece. May- Sept is the best time to visit Greece. The weather was amazing during that time.
When was this trip (month and/or year)? Do you recommend this time of year to visit this place?
May 2017 - yes the best months to visit Greece is between May- Sept.
How many days did you stay in this place?
2 days in Athens; 3 days in Mykonos; and 3 days in Santorini
What was your choice of accommodation?
Hotel
What was the name of your hotel/motel/backpackers (if this applies to you)?
Athens- Hotel Cypria
Mykonos- Harmony Hotel Boutique
Santorini- Absolute Bliss Imerovigli
Was this accommodation conveniently located from public transport and/or major tourist spots?
Yes
What was your experience staying at this accommodation? Highs, lows, what made you choose to stay here - would you recommend staying at this place?
Hotels were centrally located and my stay has been great in all of them.
If you were to go back to this destination, would you stay here?
Yes
Did you book (group) tours or see the city by yourself?
Combination of both
Give us a glimpse into some of the sights you saw - (what did the sights entail, how long should they spend there etc.)! How should one plan their day when selecting certain sightseeing options?
Athens:
I did a half-day city tour of Athens including the new Acropolis Museum (English speaking guide and transportation to/from hotel). This was done by AFC holidays.
On the second day, I walked around the city and of course did some shopping.
Mykonos:
I decided to go to Mykonos from Athens on the Ferry (Blue Star). I recommend purchasing the Business Class tickets as it is more comfortable during the journey.
Mykonos is a rather small city, so I mostly just walked around myself and experienced it all.
Santorini:
Continuing my journey to my last stop, I took the high-speed ferry and this time purchased the Economy Class ticket, from Mykonos to Santorini. I made my way to Oia myself. I highly recommend this for the best views and sunset point.
I also did a full day tour of Thira and Imerovigli (full day volcano and hot springs tour), which was organised, with Thirasia tour. The hotel had all the information required for this tour.
I made my way back to Athens from Santorini to finish my trip. This time I flew to Athens and I recommend that as being the best option for comfort. I flew with a local airline – Sky Express.
Speaking of sightseeing - What do you recommend an absolute must do?
Athens - The Acropolis and museums
Mykonos- it’s a pretty small city, which can be seen in a day by walking. The windmills are a must see there!
Santorini- Everything! Oia, Thira, Thirasia, Imerovigli
Depending on your style of travel (i.e. solo, group, family, luxury, budget) is there a tour or an attraction that you would recommend to someone who's looking to travel like you, should do?
Cozmo travel - they are really good!
Food - that's the important stuff! What were your favourite restaurants/food joints etc. to go to? Tell us all about where we should and shouldn't go?
Greek salad is a must have! Apart from that if you are non-vegetarian and love seafood... do try them as they are fresh and yummy! Food isn’t an issue at all. The salads are amazing and most restaurants serve good food. Santorini is a bit expensive than the other 2 places. Apart from that food is good everywhere! Oh! And not to forget ...wine!
What was the highlight of your trip? Whether it is related to the destination or the way you travel is up to you (maybe both):
Santorini, you need to see it to believe it! Words cannot describe the beauty of Santorini and pictures don’t do it justice. If you’re flexible spend more time in Santorini if you can.
What was an absolute low of your trip? And how can one be prepared to avoid it if they are visiting this destination?
Well for me the only issue was that I was not prepared for it to be really cold even during summer month. Temperature dropped as low as 6 degrees and the entire day was 11 degree. Being born and raised in Middle East, 6 degree is really cold😝. Apart from that there was nothing disappointing.
Any hot tips or extra information that you'd like to add before you sign off?
If you travel in May, although it’s summer time but it’s really chilly so do carry some warm clothing.
What’s your next destination?
Japan 2018
