Gastronomy Blog | New Zealand Edition | Places To Eat In Queenstown

Well, I have previously mentioned that I’d like to get more into food blogs and recommend places to eat in destinations I’ve been to. To kick off the New Zealand edition, I thought I’d start with Queenstown. Although, I’ve done one on Wellington previously but nonetheless here are my suggestions for Queenstown.

  • Ferg Burger This has to be number one on this list. This is the only Ferg Burger in all of New Zealand. In fact, celebrities like Ed Sheeran are on the hall of fame (well wall of fame) here. If it is your first time to Queenstown, you have to go through the ritual – the obligatory wait in line, then the order and the finally the burger heaven in your hands. However, if you are absolutely starving, just give them a call and place your order over the phone and pick your food up in 15-minutes. I usually have the Cockadoodle Oink and can recommend this burger if you are looking for a chicken burger (mixed with a bit of bacon). I have also heard that the Bombay Chicken is good, but I haven’t had this, so cannot recommend it. The Ferg brand is also growing in Queenstown, with the Ferg Baker next door to Ferg Burger, and an ice cream place further

  • Winnie’s Gourmet Pizza This is a nice place for a meal, when you’re travelling with friends, or family. There’s a bunch of stairs you have to go up, and there it is, a make shift roof top pub. As the name suggests, this is a pizza place and the portion sizes are decent. If you like to share your food, this is the perfect place for you.

  • Madam Woo Come back down the stairs from Winnie’s and next door to it, lies the Asian Fusion restaurant, Madam Woo. Whilst, yes, it is an Asian Fusion restaurant, you do tend to get more Malaysian food. You can either choose to order sharing plate type meals or meals just for yourself depending on your mood. This is a very flavourful place, and the food can be quite spicy. Let the staff know, in case you cannot handle spice, like me. Madam Woo has become a go to place for when my family and I visit Queenstown. It’s a nice restaurant on a day you’re wanting to have a nice sit down meal, rather than the usual take away or fast food type places.

  • BolliwoodNope I haven’t spelt it wrong, Bolliwood is one of the many Indian restaurants in the Queenstown area. Having eaten at a couple of the other Indian restaurants, I can say that Bolliwood rates much higher than those places. The food has a lot of flavour, and isn’t just the Indian food made to suit the Western community. If you want to eat spicy Indian food, just say the word, and they will make it to your taste.

Patagonia -  This used to predominantly be a dessert place. With its ever growing popularity, there are now 3 store Patagonia stores in Queenstown, with two of them in the town centre just metres apart from each other. The bigger Patagonia store has somewhat evolved from just a dessert store to offering a bit more savoury options with a dose of chocolate. Whilst, this isn’t your sit down have a meal kind of place, I can guarantee you, if you choose to eat any of their desserts, that is a meal in itself.

The beauty of Queenstown and a few of the South Island cities are that, they are what I like to call ‘authentically’ New Zealand. That is an incorrect representation of what I’m about to say, but I feel it resonates well with the emotion. There are restaurants in this area that aren’t big chains, even when
they can be. Ferg Burger’s popularity is off the roof, and it can easily be a chain of restaurants across New Zealand, but with it being the only store in Queenstown, it adds somewhat of a flavour to your trip. Am I the only one who thinks like that?

Have you been to any of these places for a meal? Or do you have any recommendations of your own in Queenstown? Leave them in the comments below.

Until next time,
