What I am up to during this Covid-19 NZ Lockdown
So, we are now in our second week of lockdown here in New Zealand in an attempt to try and break the coronavirus outbreak. This is the first time, I’ve been in a lockdown. I feel when we had the H1N1 outbreak, it was not as serious as how much coronavirus has seemed to prove.
Only, essential services and workers are working from an office or their regular place of employment. Massive shout out to our frontline staff who have to go to work every single day as they work in essential services and make sure that we are safe and get what we need. Whilst, the rest of the country is expected to, stay indoors and work from home. We are allowed to go outside for some exercise and go for a walk as long as it’s local i.e. you can’t drive to a beach and hang out there. Other than that, we are allowed to drive to and from essential services, and maintain social distancing when at these services.
I have previously worked from home, when I was a contractor, but it’s so different from working full time from home. Regardless, like others I’m suddenly finding I have a lot more time on hand. This is what I have been doing and am planning to use this time for.
I go for a walk every day. With the gym closed for 5 weeks, I’m feeling major withdrawals of a workout. It’s funny, I’m not even an exercise junkie, but I now realise the value that I place on my gym workouts and how ick it makes me feel to not go. I am also feeling major boxing withdrawals. So, as workable workaround, I either get mum or dad, to hold up two old cushions which act as boxing pads, and I just do basic jab crosses on them. It’s definitely not the same, but hey it will get me through, I think.
My friends from University had gifted me a guitar for my 21st, which I had started learning. But life got in the way and I stopped. I feel this lockdown is a blessing in disguise (probably not the best choice of words) as you have to try and do things to keep yourself occupied. In other words, I have started up classes again. Don’t worry, they are online courses. If anyone is looking to do the same, I recommend Justin Guitar. Music has always been a big part of my life and I intend to keep it that way.
Needless to say, I’m looking at adding to my blog line-up. I have a habit of pre-writing blogs, depending on when inspiration strikes. There could be times when I feel like I just don’t run out of topics, and other times, when I can barely even think of one. Wish me luck, I’m hoping I can write a few at this time. Also, can I just take a moment to celebrate that I’ve written a blog each week this year! This was one of my resolutions for this year, and so far so good. As always, if there’s anything, in particular, you want me to blog about, related to my travels, or anything else that I’ve previously shared, I’m always looking for more topic ideas!
Thank you, next. Netflix. Lot’s of it. (Get your head out of the gutter, because I have a feeling you were thinking about something else.) I personally love Netflix documentaries and some of their shows. I do feel Netflix falls a little with their movies. But here’s the deal, I’ll do a blog on some of my recommended shows, movies etc. maybe next week.
Apart from all of the above, I’m working full time. It’s definitely an interesting experience. For those in New Zealand, please stay home and save lives. I know that I’ll be sad to go back to the office at the end of the lockdown. I can’t make the fashion statements, I make in going to my living room each day, I just don’t think people would understand.
Have you picked up any new or old hobbies?
Until next time,
