Good Stays Accommodation Review | Queenstown

I feel at Queenstown, I’ve stayed at every possible accommodation type. Wait no, I take that back, I haven’t stayed in a hostel or a backpackers. In our trip to Queenstown, during December 2019, we booked an Air BnB with Good Stays. This blog will be a review of this stay.

The Good:

We booked a 3 bedroom apartment in Frankton at the Marina Apartments. The fantastic feature of this apartment was the views we got from the living room. What was also convenient was each bedroom had an ensuite meaning, everyone had their own privacy and could get ready at their pace without having to fight over using the bathroom.

The layout of the apartment, was exactly like the apartment we had Peppers when we stayed there in 2018. Though our apartment in Peppers was a two-bedroom, however, the same layout nonetheless. I couldn’t comment on the price difference, as I didn’t pay for this from my pocket. This was pre-booked by my family.

As this is a proper apartment, if you prefer, you can buy your own ingredients and cook your meal, if you feel you’ve had enough food from the restaurants. There’s also a washer and dryer, which is helpful if you’re in Queenstown for a longer stay. In addition, there are ample parking spots at the apartments, if you have rented a vehicle.

They also have BBQ’s in their front yard, if you fancy a nice grilled meal with your mates.

The Bad:

This is located on the far end of Frankton, quite close to the Queenstown airport. Whilst, Queenstown is developing quite a bit, and they have made a small ‘shopping centre’ by Frankton, Queenstown’s real beauty is around the town centre. If you do decide to walk down to the town centre from here, it will take you at least an hour (probably a bit longer depending on your pace) to get there and about a 10-minute drive depending on traffic. As most of the food options are also in the town centre, it can be tricky to have to take your car out each time you want to head there and if you don’t have a car then to have to walk down.

From memory, on one of the days, I was tempted to take an Uber, and that was a $25 ride. I feel that’s a bit much for a 10-minute drive and I opted against it.

The Ugly:

Whilst, yes, this is an Air BnB, there was minimal essentials in the apartment. By essentials, I’m referring to things like, soap, gel, washing liquid etc. This sounds silly I know, however, not everyone goes prepared with such things on a holiday, and given, hotels have given tourists the expectation of having certain things, we almost expect it everywhere we go. Having to buy washing powder when you don’t get travel sized packs, can be firstly expensive and secondly a waste and there’s no way you’ll get through the full thing before your trip comes to an end.

If you were to ask me would I stay here again, I wouldn’t have a straight answer. The reason being, a lot would depend on who I’m going with. If I were to go solo, I would prefer staying closer to the town centre, and avoid having to pay $25 for Uber. If I were going with a big group of friends, I possibly would consider staying here as it would mean all of us could be under the same roof and same goes with if I were travelling with my family. Personally, I’d prefer staying closer to the town centre any way, however, this is also a great option.

Until next time,
