Sheraton Buenos Aires and Convention Centre | Hotel Review
/After my tour ended in Rio De Janiero, I made my way back to Buenos Aires for two days before flying back home to Auckland. My brother booked me a room at the Sheraton Buenos Aires and Convention Centre. This is my review of my stay there.
The Good:
The hotel is located at a convenient location, which is not too far from the Puerto Madero. This is an easy walk to the hotel, and the best way to plan your attractions visit is to start with the spot that’s the furthest away and
make your way to the hotel.
This was a nice, very corporate hotel, as it’s also a big convention centre. It’s located in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires on San Martin street. If you’re a young family, the San Martin park is just across the road, if you’d like to sit down with the kids for a little while. The hotel is not too far from other tourist spots like the Obelisk or Teatro Colón either. If you like walking, and appreciate architecture, this walk can be easy (ish) to do.
The hotel has a big line of taxis, and I appreciated that they didn’t push for us to use hotel taxis, which usually cost a few extra dollars. The staff were very friendly and helped out to the best of their abilities.
There’s one bar in the lobby area, and the vibe is quite chill, which exactly what you need during a relaxing break. The bar wasn’t too expensive, but then again Buenos Aires isn’t that expensive anyway.
The Bad:
If you come from a city with not a lot of population or traffic, staying at this hotel can be a struggle. Whilst, the hotel can’t really do anything about this, I’m mentioning this more for people who struggle with crowds. The hotel is located adjacent to a big intersection, and I’ve seen first hand how busy it can get with both foot and vehicle traffic. Having to walk amidst that and cross the road, can be daunting for those who struggle with crowds.
The Ugly:
Whilst for the most part, my stay here was very comfortable, I battled between listing this under the bad or the ugly. My brother booked the hotel for me, however, as he was not staying, none of his ‘elite benefits’ applied.
As I checked in, I was reminded of this a number of times, and the lady at the reception, kept trying to upsell every single thing that she could. From choosing a room in the Executive floor, to adding breakfast, to late check-out (which we actually needed but couldn’t get). It had been a tiring day of travel and all I really wanted to do was to check-in, have a shower, grab a bite and go to sleep.
I personally hate being upsold to, and so this situation for me was very uncomfortable. I felt that with me constantly saying no to everything she suggested I buy/add on, that I was somehow disappointing her and that is not a feeling you want when you are on holiday.
However, I have to add, that check-out was a smooth process and all the staff were very helpful and friendly and made sure I had everything I needed.
If my travels took me to Buenos Aires again, I wouldn’t mind staying here again. I quite enjoyed staying here and just enjoying the city vibe.
Have you stayed at this hotel? What was your experience like?
Until next time,
