Travel tips to Iguassu Falls

Planning on going to the Iguassu Falls? I mean you definitely should at some time in your life! Here are some handy tips:

  • You must make it a point to visit it from both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides. I cannot emphasise this enough!

  • The Brazilian side doesn’t take too long to explore, and I highly recommend doing the helicopter tour of the falls. It may be slightly pricy and just a 10-minute ride over the falls, but the views are spectacular and nothing compares!

  • You will get wet on both sides! The Brazilian side it’s more the mist that gets you wet, and dries off quite quickly. On the Argentinian side, if you choose to do the boat tour (again, I highly recommend), you will get drenched.

  • Following on from point 3, carry a spare change of clothes from head to toe. Carry a rain jacket too. I have a Kathmandu rain jacket and that played a major role in keeping the top of half of me dry.

  • If you do the boat tour, know that there are roughly 150 steps to go down and then climb back up.

  • You won’t be lunching alone, a lot of the local animal species will be with you giving you company in the hopes that they may steal your food. Do not offer it to them, as they can bite.

  • If it is cloudy and grey it can be chilly, even if you’re not doing the boat tour, carry something warm, whether that’s a jacket or a cardigan or a sweater.

  • I wouldn’t recommend wearing flip flops when at the falls. You won’t need them at all, trainers allow for a better grip when walking on the Argentinian side especially if it’s a wet day. For those wanting to do the boat trip, don’t worry you get a bag once you get to the boat to keep everything in so it doesn’t get wet.
