Travel Tips to Ilha Grande | Brazil
/
Well, with the very little I know about this island, I still have a few handy tips for you!
Carry a rain jacket, and make sure it’s in your backpack with you at all times. Ilha Grande is a tropical rainforest island, with more days filled with rain than the sun. When it rains, it pours, getting you drenched within minutes.
Carry a pair of flip flops as well as trainers. If you are the kind of person who likes to go hiking, you’ll need your trainers. A lot of these hikes are through the forest, and well you may or may not meet the inhabitants of the forest. If you do spot an animal, do not approach it or give it food.
Always carry a spare change of clothes if you plan on going on hikes, as a few of the hikes end at the beaches. If you’d like to go for a swim, you’re going to need a change of clothes.
Ilha Grande is also a good spot for snorkelling. Whilst, I’ve never done this, I have heard good things. Always enquire about the activity first, as you usually find out the night before, or first thing the morning off, if the activity is taking place. In this case, referring to snorkelling, or boat rides.
Carry cash with you when visiting the island. ATMs are quite new here, and whilst some places may accept cards, it may not work with their system. To be safe, carry cash.
If you are someone who carries minimal cash, I would suggest getting some cash from Angra Dos Reis, or even Paraty, if that is the town you’re visiting before heading here.
If you like to read, I would suggest carrying a couple of books, you can either lay on the beach and read, or if it’s raining, stay in your room and read.
If you’ve got any tips of your own, leave those below.
Until next time,
