Frankton Trail | Queenstown
/During my trip to Queenstown in January 2021, most of the days were filled with bad weather. One of the days, where bad weather was predicted, the town’s occupants were blessed with some sunshine. I wanted to make the most of this and do some of the things that I love to do in Queenstown. One of those things are walking to the other side of the lake or town centre and find a quiet spot on the grass and sit down for a wee while. For those familiar with the area, think where Peppers is, it’s around that area.
I got ready and jet set off on my day. I bought a coffee and made my way to my spot. I was momentarily distracted by a busker who had his dog along and the duo entertained the crowds with their music. Slowly and steadily I eventually made it to my spot. Took some photos and contemplated life. However, my heart wanted to make its way back to the howling dog. Because who doesn’t love dogs? And so I followed my heart (I think there’s a lesson in there somewhere).
The busker finished his set shortly after and I made my way towards the Queenstown Gardens. I took a new path or rather I didn’t divert into going further into the gardens but followed a path. I kept walking expecting it to end somewhere from where I’d turn around and head back. I’d walked maybe 50-minutes and was almost at a suburban area when I found out that this is a hiking trail which is called Queenstown Trail.
I kept walking to see how far I could go and how far I had left to go not expecting much. The trail continues through this suburb for about a kilometre at which point it then goes back into a trail. This second trail is called Frankton Trail. This looks to be a fantastic trail and the next time I’m in Queenstown I’d love to try and do one of the paths through this trail in full length. Unfortunately, this time, I couldn’t do the full thing as I just wasn’t prepared. I had incorrect shoes and not the right gear, period. Even the shortest walk to finish would have been at least a couple more hours.
So, I turned around and headed back to the town centre. I found a new part of the town that I hadn’t been to before and was a bit envious of some of the beautiful houses there. I wish I could live in one of those houses #FirstHomeBuyerProblems.
No matter how many times I come to Queenstown, I always end up finding something new to do. It truly never seizes to amaze me.
